Charles Darwin

1809 - 1882

"The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man."

"When I view all beings not as special creations, but as the lineal descendants of some few beings which lived long before the first bed of the Cambrian system was deposited, they seem to me to become ennobled."

-Charles Darwin

Henry Beston

1888 -1968

"We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals.  In a world older and more complete than ours,

they move finished and complete,

gifted with the extension of the senses

we have lost or never attained, living by

voices we shall never hear.

They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the Earth."

- Henry Beston

Albert Einstein

1879 - 1955

"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.  Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty."

-Albert Einstein

David Attenborough

“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”

“The fact is that no species has ever had such wholesale control over everything on Earth, living or dead, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the earth.”

David Attenborough

Onkuri Majumdar

"Think of it... we are all on one planet.

As far as is known till now it is the only living planet in the known universe.

We are like passengers on this little ship

floating through deep space and I think that

the most heroic thing that we can do

is take care of our fellow passengers."

- Onkuri Majumdar

E.O. Wilson

"Look closely at nature.  Every species is a masterpiece, exquisitely adapted to the particular environment in which it has survived.  Who are we to destroy or even diminish biodiversity?"

"The one process now going on that will take millions of years to correct is the loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us."

- E.O. Wilson

The Trimates

"The Trimates" is the name given to three incredible women; Dian Fossey, Jane Goodall, and Birutė Galdikas, chosen by anthropologist Louis Leakey to study great apes in the wild.  At the time, little was known about gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans, and these women changed the way the humans looked at their closest wild relatives.  Their stories are truly remarkable and their work has saved countless primates.
